Winger Carles Perez ‘understands’ the decision to cut player wages and claimed the fans at Roma are ‘more intense’ than his experience from Barcelona.

The Spanish attacker arrived on loan with an option to buy from the Blaugrana in January and revealed that the Roma fans are ‘different’ to the ones he was used to from Spain.

“The Roma fans are different from those in Spain. People in Rome experience football in another way, more intensely,” he told Marca. “There are positive and negative sides. They are noisy throughout the game, cheering the team on.”

The 22-year-old has yet to score in Serie A, but has opened his account in the Europa League, and with the side currently fifth in the League, he confirmed the Giallorossi have ambitions to qualify for the Champions League.

“We can get to the Champions League and advance in the Europa League. If we win all the games, we could certainly qualify.”

One of the hot topics in Italian media these days has been the player wages and the proposal of Serie A to cut their salaries by one third.

“It’s right. We are paid to play on the weekend and now we can’t because we have to stay at home,” he said. “On the other hand, we are not on vacation because we continue to train, even though I understand the decision.”

And the Spanish newspaper was eager to know if the Spain Under-21 international has had the chance to meet Francesco Totti during his first months in the Italian capital.

“No, he has not been to the sports centre since I arrived. But I hope to meet him, he is a legend.”
