This was meant to be the big showdown between Maurizio Sarri and his former club, after Lorenzo Insigne said they felt ‘betrayed’ by his move to their arch-rivals.

However, Sarri has been suffering from pneumonia and is therefore not on the bench, as he is in the stadium, but in a separate section.

He has again picked Higuain – another ex-Napoli man – to lead the line with Cristiano Ronaldo and Douglas Costa, leaving PSG target Paulo Dybala on the bench.

The only new face in the line-up after their 1-0 victory over Parma is De Ligt, but that was a decision forced upon them by yesterday’s serious injury to Giorgio Chiellini.

The captain tore his anterior cruciate ligament and is likely to be out of action for around six months.

Blaise Matuidi and Sami Khedira are once more given the midfield reins with Miralem Pjanic.

Napoli made the trip without injured Arkadiusz Milik, but do make some changes at the back from their 4-3 victory away to Fiorentina.

Mertens caused a great deal of controversy in Florence, as he seemed to dive for a penalty and the VAR did not advise the referee to view it again.

Fernando Llorente had his medical today and will sign a two-year contract for Napoli, but isn’t ready yet, so Lorenzo Insigne, Fabian Ruiz and Jose Callejon support the Belgian.

The changes are at the back, Faouzi Ghoulam replaces Mario Rui, but Nikola Maksimovic is again dropped in favour of ex-Empoli full-back Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

Mexico international Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano is on the bench and hoping to make his debut after the transfer from PSV Eindhoven.

Juventus won both Serie A meetings with Napoli last season, but haven’t beaten them three times in a row since 1993.

The Partenopei lost seven of their last eight top flight games here, except for the infamous Kalidou Koulibaly header in April 2018, which made them believe the Scudetto was coming.
