Max Allegri is dealing with a series of problems going into this fixture, which was won 1-0 by Udinese last season in an opening round shocker.

Kwadwo Asamoah, Daniele Rugani, Rolando Mandragora and Marko Pjaca are all on the treatment table.

Dani Alves and Leonardo Bonucci were originally left off the squad list to rest them ahead of the Champions League trip to Olympique Lyonnais.

However, this morning Giorgio Chiellini pulled out with a left thigh injury that will require further tests and, crucially, is different to the calf problem that ruled him out of Italy’s game with Macedonia last week.

With that in mind, Bonucci was quickly recalled from spending time with his family to fill the gaps, but is at first only on the bench.

Medhi Benatia is back from his injury to complete the new-look back four with Stephan Lichtsteiner, Andrea Barzagli and Patrice Evra.

That’s not the end of it, as Miralem Pjanic is suffering from a stomach bug and is an even later addition to the absentee list.

Mario Lemina has to step in with Hernanes, Juan Cuadrado and Alex Sandro.

Gonzalo Higuain is rested after playing with Argentina, so Mario Mandzukic hopes to build on his hat-trick for Croatia by partnering Paulo Dybala.

There’s a spot on the bench for both Claudio Marchisio, making his comeback six months after anterior cruciate ligament surgery, and 16-year-old hitman Moise Kean.

Udinese make their debut under new Coach Gigi Del Neri, who had a disastrous season on the Juve bench in 2010-11 and here steps in for sacked Beppe Iachini.

The Friulani have their own problems too, as Ewandro, Emil Hallfredsson, Panagiotis Kone, Silvan Widmer and Emmanuel Badu are all absent.

Rodrigo De Paul is talented, but needs to be more consistent in supporting Duvan Zapata and Cyril Thereau.
