Southampton sent in a concrete offer to Lecce for midfielder Morten Hjulmand and it has reportedly been rejected by the Puglian side.

The 23-year-old Danish midfielder has quietly impressed in the South of Italy since arriving from Austrian outfit Admira Wacker in January 2021 for just €170,000, playing an important role in both the build-up play and the defensive work. This season, Hjulmand has provided four assists in 17 appearances for Lecce.

As reported by TMW, Southampton submitted an offer worth €11m plus €2m in add-ons for Hjulmand, which was promptly rejected by Lecce. The Puglian side value the player at around €20m and believe they can secure a higher fee, thanks to the interest from other Premier League clubs.

The Danish midfielder is already club captain of Lecce and looks ready to make the next step in his career. Hjulmand was handed his first international call-up earlier this year but is yet to make his debut for the national team.
