Lecce are furious with the Disciplinary Commission after David Di Michele was handed a three-match ban. “It's falsifying the entire campaign.”

There are only three rounds left in the Serie A season and Lecce are in the thick of the relegation battle, so losing their star player is a devastating blow.

“I do not understand how the Disciplinary Commission could make such a huge mistake. From the video evidence, there is no certainty Di Michele made contact with his opponent,” said President Pierandrea Semeraro.

The footage suggests an off-the-ball incident with Chievo player Bostjan Cesar during Sunday's game.

“A decision like this is falsifying the entire campaign and could prove decisive in the relegation battle.

“Some incidents in recent weeks, like the dubious penalty awarded to Sampdoria at Bari and Genoa's goal against us, not to mention other decisions that went against Lecce, can alter the regularity of this season.

“Of course we are certain the referees are impartial, but Lecce do not have the prestige of some of the other clubs fighting against relegation and I would hate for that to be used as discrimination against us.

“We will make an urgent appeal against this ban and aim to have it cancelled outright, as there is not enough evidence to confirm violent conduct.”
