Lecce have left Souleymane Diamoutene at home after fans attacked him during training, but Gigi De Canio insists “that incident isn't the issue.”

The Mali defender was surrounded by 10 ultras during a training session this week, who hurled insults based on his past as a Bari player and tried to forcibly remove the shirt from his back.

Diamoutene has been left out of the squad ready to take on Genoa on Sunday afternoon.

“I make the choices and they are down to technical decisions,” said Coach De Canio.

“I make the choices and they are down to technical decisions,” said Coach De Canio.

“I base my decisions on the evaluations I make during the week and because of this, obviously, not calling Diamoutene is purely a technical decision.

“Of course I am sorry about what happened and I explained that to the lad, but that incident isn't the issue. It has nothing to do with it.”

Diamoutene claimed he was calm after the incident, but did confess the Coach might consider it a problem for his concentration and that of his teammates.
