This weekend’s Serie A action involves two sides that lost their opening fixtures and these Lazio vs. Genoapredictions will look at how they can react to that setback. Defeat on the opening weekend will have been frustrating for both teams.

Lazio vs. Genoa odds

1 – Lazio to win – 3/5

2 – Lazio under 2.5 total goals – 1/3

3 – Total goals scored under 2.5 – 17/20

4 – Both teams not to score – 9/10

5 – Lazio to win 1-0 – 11/2

The opening weekend did not go according to plan for Lazio, as they ended up on the losing side in a 2-1 defeat away at Lecce.

Despite starting the campaign away from Rome, Maurizio Sarri would have been confident of securing three points on the road, ahead of hosting Genoa this weekend.

But his side were sucker punched in the final minutes, as late goals from Pontus Almqvist and Federico Di Francesco flipped the contest in Lecce’s favour. Sarri and his players will be looking to put that right against a newly promoted Genoa side that lost 4-1 at home to Fiorentina last time out.

Lazio won their last four Serie A home ties against Genoa, with no meeting last season as the Grifone looked to secure promotion back into the top flight from Serie B.

Despite being strong favourites to secure a first win of the season, Lazio struggled for attacking fluency against Lecce, with Ciro Immobile’s sole goal the only highlight. A win is the priority for Sarri and based on last weekend, they may be forced to do it the hard way, with a narrow margin of victory.

Genoa did manage to score against Fiorentina, but it came as a late consolation, after already conceding four inside the first hour – and they will find it difficult in the capital.

If Lazio do manage to seal a much-needed win it should allow them to build momentum either side of the international break in September.

But defeat for Genoa, ahead of a key trip to Torino before the international window, could leave them in a tough spot on their return to the big time this season.

Sarri has a fully fit squad to pick from ahead of this game, but defeat at Lecce could mean changes as he aims for a win in Rome. Argentinian striker Valentín Castellanos came off the bench last weekend and the former Girona loanee should start here.

Long-term injury absentee Marko Pajac is still out, and head coach Alberto Gilardino is set to make sweeping changes after the loss at Fiorentina. Caleb Ekuban, Johan Vasquez and Koni De Winter could all come into the team as they look to make life difficult for Lazio.
