Matias Vecino is reportedly only a step away from joining Lazio on a free transfer and he’s set to carry out his medicals with the club early next week.

The 30-year-old Uruguayan midfielder is currently a free agent after his contract expired with Inter earlier this month, forcing him to find a new home. Lazio have been keen to pick up Vecino for a while now, with Maurizio Sarri remembering him well from their brief time together at Empoli.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Vecino is expected to undergo his medicals with Lazio on Monday before putting pen to paper on a three-year contract, understood to be worth around €2m net per season plus add-ons.

The 30-year-old is an important addition to Sarri’s squad in Rome and his presence will be key as the team prepare for an incredibly busy schedule in the upcoming campaign, meaning he’ll likely feature regularly.
