Inter fought back from 2-0 down to secure a 2-2 draw against Olympique Lyon in their pre-season friendly this evening.

The Nerazzurri found themselves 1-0 down after only 31 minutes following an Alexandre Lacazette header, and things went from bad to worse just after half time, when Rayan Cherki doubled Lyon’s lead after the ball rattled off the woodwork.

The second goal seemingly sparked life back into the Inter squad, who responded only two minutes later. A Lautaro Martinez shot was well saved by Anthony Lopes but his efforts were ultimately in vain after a Federico Dimarco cross met Romelu Lukaku, who guided the ball home to make things 2-1.

Some good link up play between Nicolo Barella and Lautaro in the 65th minute saw the Nerazzurri secure their equaliser, and they held on to secure a well-fought draw.

Inter will face Villarreal in a pre-season friendly on August 6 before their Serie A season kicks off on August 13 against Lecce.

20 thought on “Inter fight back in 2-2 friendly draw with Lyon”
  1. Exciting game from head to finish! Non stop actions from both ends! Forza Inter

Ps, I start to suspect Mohammed and Cypher, the dumb and dumber of this site is like 12 and 13

  2. Looks like Italian sides are on the same level as average sides from France, Spain, Germany or England who still pose a threat to them. The big sides in their leagues are next level and Italian sides are just not on those levels and have not been since 2010. Roma beat Tottenham and maybe they will be the side to beat next year and are European winners and it shows that they are, their team formation looked really impressive on the football scores pages and they look decent, no wonder they are champions at something. Milan, Inter and Juventus look like any average side can pose them problems still and maybe it’s a sign of what the season holds this year. Atalanta lost to Newcastle another sign that they are a depleted side that has deflated because all their efforts has not produced any silverware which they deserve.

  3. Inter was so brutally outplayed today with his starting team bar Skriniar and maybe Handanovic that it was not even funny. And Lyon allowed the tie with a foul in the first goal from Lukaku. Also, a blatant penalty was not called at 2-2. Inter midfield was non-existant and in the first half other than a chance here or there, could have ended 4-0 without a single complaint. With Asllani they improved but Inzaghi put him in the turf pretty late. This Inter, TBH, it is nothing but a washed out version of the 20-21 winners, with lesser performances from De Vrij and Lukaku and without Perisic and Hakimi. Oh I forgot, Lautaro missed his usual 2-3 sitters for the match

  4. @putuco I didn’t know Milan fans would be this early to start blaming the refs. The score in friendly matches can be very deceiving. Lukaku and Lautaro were in fire and there’s a sense they can score at any point when they were on the pitch together. The best others can do is complain about the refs when real matches starts I doubt this season luck will be involved in deciding the winner tho. Especially with a decent Brozo backup(Aslani), two first team keepers and a much hungrier attack.

  5. For those doubting Inter, get lost. By far the best team in Serie A. Don’t forget what happened last season and what we did to Liverpool.

Now we have a healthy and motivated Lukaku, a healthy Gosens, Mkhitaryan, Asllani, and bringing back the best defence from last season as well.

Second star coming up this season, no doubt!

  6. The team looked good today. Midfield was struggling, but the second half with the younger players in the middle looked fantastic! Might wanna switch out some starters for the youth! Just sayin…

  7. InterFantastic – we got our second star in 1982 LOL and getting close to our fourth. Yes, we all remember what you ‘did’ to Liverpool – you lost the tie son. So called best side in Serie A but was beaten to the scudetto by Milan. Your CCP owner is broke – none of this sounds too great for Inter.

  8. Antonio F – so Roma are the side to beat because they won a ton-pot third tier European cup equivalent to the Intertoto? Are you forgetting how they finished 23 points behind Milan?! It’s bizarre how that Conference League win seems to have suddenly propelled them two levels higher than they really are to lots of people.

  9. So much fuss from milan & juve fans. This is only pre-season friendly. The most important thing is raising the fitness level while not getting injured. Inter will be ready in 2 weeks.
The squad is strong enough as it is. SDV and Skriniar will renew. Young players like satriano, asllani, esposito, zinho/pirola, bellanova will replace the ageing players in 1-2 years time. It’s more satisfying to win without relying on the owner to cover the loss every season

  10. @frankie Serie A teams also get stars, son. Not just the national team. One star for every 10 Scudetti won. Inter get our second star this year after we win 20th Scudetto. Perhaps you should listen better and find out before you speak ignorantly next time.

As far losing a tie, we dominated Liverpool in both games. Completely dominated them both times.

Milan won out but we beat them and dominated them 3-0 last time we played them and we had a tougher schedule and had to play more games than they did.

Inter is the best team in the league by far.

  11. @Rian
I agree 100% on everything. I have seen Mkhitaryan: I think he is a talent.
Even silly people know how to buy with money (often without winning anything). To reinforce the team without money you must have the genius of Marotta.
The Under 19 Inter team, coached by Cristian Chivu is the Italian champion.
Many strong youngsters: among them Casadei is the future star (pay attention to Chelsea).
    Ciao.
