Lazio have confirmed a deal for Uruguayan forward Emiliano Alfaro, but “we will evaluate whether to send him out on loan or keep him here.”

The striker’s agent announced the deal overnight, as Liverpool Montevideo agreed to sell the player, but he might not get his Biancocelesti debut for a while yet.

“Edy Reja is aware of what is going on. Alfaro is a young player with good potential,” director of sport Igli Tare told Sky Sport Italia.

“This was an opportunity we decided to take, because we believe he can do well in Italian football. We will evaluate over the next few days whether to send him out on loan to play or keep him here with us.

“Alfaro can play as a centre-forward or a support striker, but has different characteristics to Djibril Cissè, so he’s got nothing to do with this move.

“I hear reports that Djibril is up for debate, but he is a crucial player and absolutely off the market. He came back from the winter break having lost 3kg and proved how much he wants to get back to being his old self.”
