Inter full-back Valentino Lazaro is close to Benfica, but his agent insists ‘there are many other big clubs interested.’

He just returned from loan spells at Borussia Monchengladbach and Newcastle United, failing to particularly make his mark at either club.

Now it’s reported he is heading to Portugal for Benfica and his agent certainly did not deny it.

“I don’t want to say too much right now, as it’s not the right time,” agent Max Hagmayr told O Jogo in Portugal.

“There is still a possibility, but there are many other big clubs who are interested. I have a serious business, but as it stands, all the negotiations going on right now are a long way off being closed.

“We are still analysing all the options and need to think about this.”

Inter paid €22.4m to sign Lazaro from Hertha Berlin in 2019, but he failed to make much of an impact at San Siro.

Lazaro has made just 11 competitive appearances for the Scudetto winners, managing two assists.
