Lautaro Martinez feels Inter have ‘matured’ after their difficult start to the season and are now ‘on the right track,’ but cannot explain how the goal drought ended. ‘This is the life of a striker.’

The Nerazzurri have found their form again in Serie A and the Champions League, as after putting themselves on the verge of the Round of 16 in Europe with a 3-3 draw away to Barcelona midweek, they made short work of Salernitana.

Lautaro Martinez broke his eight-match goal drought at Camp Nou and was on target again here, followed by Nicolò Barella showing great technique and skill to double their lead.

“This victory means Inter have grown and matured a great deal, because after the performance against Barcelona, we learned a lot and must continue like this,” Lautaro Martinez told Sky Sport Italia.

“We are on the right track. It was a bit of a bad start, we dropped important points, but I think we turned over a new leaf and are proving ourselves.”

It is not the first time that Lautaro Martinez has gone from long goal droughts to finding the net repeatedly. Why does he have this pattern?

“That’s just the way it goes. I had a go today, there were players in front of me, I don’t know if the goalkeeper made a mistake or not, but this is the life of a striker.”

Alessandro Bastoni said that the Inter players got together during their dismal run and agreed they had been too whiny, complaining to each other too much, promising to put that attitude aside.

“I am someone who leaves what we say in the locker room. We did talk a lot after those defeats, we got to work and you can see the results,” concluded Lautaro.
