Lautaro Martinez was in tears after ‘making history’ with the Scudetto victory as Inter captain in the Derby della Madonnina with Milan. ‘We want many more.’

The Nerazzurri knew only a victory this evening would be enough to guarantee the title with five rounds to spare and to do it by beating their rivals in the Derby della Madonnina was a dream scenario.

They achieved it thanks to Francesco Acerbi and Marcus Thuram goals, although Fikayo Tomori did make it a tense finale late on by getting one back.

It got too tense with three red cards for Denzel Dumfries, Theo Hernandez and Davide Calabria, but the result was all that mattered.

“Now, I feel like crying because we worked so hard, suffered so much, we deserved this joy. I dedicate it to my family in Argentina, my children, my teammates and all the fans,” Lautaro Martinez told DAZN.

“In football you can win and lose, but I feel doubly happy. I told the lads, we were in a situation that had never happened before, we had to make the most of this opportunity to win in a Rossoneri stadium.”

Lautaro’s first as captain

It is the Argentina international’s second Scudetto at Inter, but his first as captain of the team.

“It means so much, because taking this great club to the title with an incredible group of teammates, it’s everything. All this is for the fans, for our families, the directors, the staff, everyone who works by our side.”

Simone Inzaghi wins his first Scudetto and the words of President Steven Zhang suggested they want to continue with the coach.

“It’s been wonderful, we must continue along this path, because we already won a lot of trophies and want many more.”

Lautaro Martinez has still not signed a new contract with Inter, but has said many times that is what he wants.

“I hope so, we need to reach an agreement with the club. Today I want to enjoy this Scudetto, we’ve been working so hard since pre-season in Japan, we changed 12 players, we made history. The party is not going to end tonight!”
