Lautaro Martinez of Inter and Roma’s Paulo Dybala are celebrating the ‘childhood dream come true’ of winning the World Cup for Argentina.

They were both substitutes in extra time, after France had come back from 2-0 down for 2-2, then 3-3 before it was decided on a penalty shoot-out.

“It is a unique sensation, I am feeling so many emotions,” Lautaro Martinez told RAI Sport.

“This is a dream I had ever since I was a child and started playing football. We still can’t quite realise what we achieved here.

“I think of my family and all the people of Argentina who will be waiting for us to celebrate with them when we return.”

The crowd in the Final was easily in favour of Argentina, who had more fans in the arenas throughout the tournament than any other nation.

“Qatar is so far from Argentina, but it felt like being at home.”

When speaking to Argentine television, Lautaro also had a special dedication and became emotional.

“My family travelled all over the world to watch and support me. I dedicate this to my daughter, who changed my life.”

Roma forward Dybala, who converted one of the spot-kicks during the shoot-out, also celebrated the victory on Instagram.

“Being Champion of the World is every childhood dream come true.”

  1. Lautaro is a lucky boy. He has won the trophy and now taken over Higuain’s thrown as choker 2.0
Dybala on the other hand deserves much praise. Got 10 mins of playing time all tournament and got that spot kick in.
