Lautaro Martinez made it clear that he’s ready to sign his new Inter contract and suggested the team are ‘in full swing’ under coach Simone Inzaghi.

The Argentinian forward was named club captain in the summer after the retirement of Samir Handanovic, having grown into a talismanic figure and star striker across his five years at the club.

Lautaro’s current contract expires in June 2026 and Inter are keen to lock down their star man, willing to break their wage structure to offer him a lucrative deal reflective of his importance to the club and internationally renowned abilities.

Speaking to Sport Mediaset, Lautaro was first asked when he’d be ready to sign his new contract with Inter.

“Not long now. I hope tomorrow! I’m calm and serene, I feel good here and I really want to renew.”

He reflected on the team’s impressive start to the season.

“I honestly expected it, even if I didn’t think we would get along so quickly. 12 players left in the summer, extraordinary guys arrived who worked well from day one but I didn’t expect us all to integrate so fast.”

The 26-year-old was asked if Juventus were the Nerazzurri’s main rivals in the title race this season.

“The road is still long, the first half hasn’t even finished. We have to continue like this because there are other strong teams like Milan and Napoli.”

He couldn’t choose between picking up the second Scudetto star or winning the Champions League.

“I’ve always said that I do this sport to win, it’s difficult to reach all the goals but we work because of this.”

Lautaro was asked about Inzaghi’s reaction after Federico Gatti’s last minute winner in Juventus’ clash with Monza.

“He didn’t fall! The coach has grown a lot from a technical and human point of view. An extraordinary person who gives everyone a chance, if you train well then you can play.”

He gave his thoughts on Inzaghi’s work at the club.

“Certainly, he’s had an incredible three years here, winning cups and reaching the Champions League final. The missed Scudetti were left there, but now we are in full swing.”

The Argentinian striker was asked if he had a goal target for this season.

“Shall we say 100? I’d like to score a lot, but the important thing is that Inter win. My goal is to improve every year.”

Finally, Lautaro discussed his desire to sign a new long-term contract with Inter.

“For me it’s ready, only a couple of details are missing. I really want to renew, I feel good here and also my family is happy. The people love me, and I love them. The club will do their part, I’m doing mine. It’s not long now, there’s no problem, I’m calm.”
