Inter striker Lautaro Martinez admits he ‘always thinks about the Argentinean national team’ when he plays and is impressed by the support during the Finalissima against Italy in June.

El Toro is expected to be part of the Seleccion for Qatar 2022. He hasn’t scored in the last seven games at a club level but remains Inter’s best scorer with three goals in 11 appearances across all competitions.

“It’s hard to describe this feeling,” Lautaro told STAR+ Qatar Specials when asked what he feels thinking about the World Cup.

“In the Final at Wembley, I had the feeling we were playing in Argentina. That support was incredible. I always think about the Argentinean team when I play. I prepare for everything.”

Argentina won the Finalissima against Italy on June 1. It was a game organised by UEFA and CONMEBOL between the Euro and Copa America winners.

It was played at Wembley Stadium in London and the South Americans secured a comfortable 3-0 victory.

Lautaro also spoke about his rapport with Argentina CT Lionel Scaloni.

“I am grateful to him because he trusted me. We have great strikers and every day is an exam. He supported me when I didn’t score.”

The 25-year-old become a father for the first time in February, when his daughter Nina was born.

“I’ve developed on and off the pitch since,” the striker admitted.

“I am a bit more mature, I am more reflexive and calm. When Before she was born, I didn’t talk at home after defeats. Now I have other priorities. Defeats still hurt, but not to the point of not being able to speak.”

Lautaro extended his contract with Inter a year ago (October 2021) until June 2026. He has scored 77 goals in 192 games with the Nerazzurri.

  1. Wish Mancini had taken this game as seriously as Argentina! Starting the game with Bernadeschi said it all!
