Javier Zanetti believes Inter have ‘a striker for the long haul’ in Lautaro Martinez, despite speculation linking him with Barcelona.
Reports linking Martinez with Barca have gone into overdrive during the coronavirus crisis, but Zanetti is confident his fellow Argentine will follow in his footsteps and leave behind a legacy at Inter.
“He’s a very smart lad, he’s making the most of his chance to play in a league as great as the Italian one,” he told Cadena 3.

“When we first watched him, we imagined this situation. It makes me happy and proud to see him represent the colours of Inter because I think we have a striker for the long haul.”
The Nerazzurri icon, now their Vice-President, then spoke of the challenges in pulling through the pandemic.
“The last thing we’re thinking about right now is the transfer of players. Today we’re thinking about health, which is the most important thing.
“When we return to training, which we hope is possible, we’ll see what will happen in the future.
“We’re focused on getting through this period because there are many families suffering. The situation is complicated.”
