Milan have confirmed that the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza will be at almost-full capacity for their Champions League opener against Newcastle United.

The Rossoneri fell at the penultimate hurdle in Europe’s premier club competition last season and are hoping to go one step further this season, but first need to escape a group containing the Magpies, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.

Milan caused concern on the weekend after they collapsed in the Derby della Madonnina, suffering a painful 5-1 loss to their intercity rivals, so Stefano Pioli is expecting a strong response against Newcastle.

As announced by Milan via TMW, over 65,000 fans are expected to attend the San Siro on Tuesday evening for the Champions League clash against Newcastle, with around 7000 Rossoneri fans travelling from abroad for the match.

Newcastle fans have already been sharing their excitement for their European return, filling the streets of the Lombardy capital with chants and light-hearted banners.
