His goals propelled Pescara to promotion via the Serie B play-offs and he had many offers over the summer, but somewhat surprisingly opted for Milan.

“During a lunch with my agent, the possibility of Milan suddenly emerged. I was enthusiastic and immediately fell in love with the idea.”

Lapadula, whose mother is Peruvian and father Italian, was also asked about some other curiosities.

“I started playing football aged four or five. I was a goalkeeper at the time. I’ve had a moustache since I was 18, as I wanted to be fashionable then.

“My brother nicknamed me Sir William for the determination I show on the pitch.”
