Sampdoria President Marco Lanna admits reinforcing the squad in January will be extremely difficult. ‘As things stand, we couldn’t afford to buy a single player.’

The Blucerchiati are in a chaotic situation, as former patron Massimo Ferrero was until recently in prison for fraudulent bankruptcy regarding his other businesses, and the club is seeking new investors.

Meanwhile, results on the field are dismal too, sitting in the relegation zone and continuing to back coach Dejan Stankovic, having already fired Marco Giampaolo last month.

“We will try to do something in January, but we have many limitations and that is no secret,” former player Lanna told Il Secolo XIX newspaper.

“As things stand right now, we couldn’t afford to buy a single player.”

That means the only moves made by Sampdoria will be loans, free agents or selling first in order to raise funds for new signings.

Sampdoria are in penultimate place in the Serie A table with just six points after 15 rounds.

They also have the worst goal difference record in the entire division at -21, because they conceded 27 goals and scored only six times in 15 matches.
