Video evidence was today assessed by the disciplinary panel and he was handed a three-match suspension as suspected.

The summer signing from River Plate will now be unavailable for the games against Fiorentina, Napoli and Chievo Verona.

He is also set to be fined by his club for his actions.

Meanwhile, two other Roma players are included in a list of nine men who will be suspended for the midweek round.

Goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, sent-off in the 4-0 loss at Juventus, and forward Bojan Krkic will also miss Wednesday’s tie against the Viola.

The other seven players stopped are: Bonera (Milan), Pasqual (Fiorentina), Bertolo (Palermo), Mesto (Genoa), Rossi (Genoa), Quagliarella (Juventus) and Von Bergen (Cesena).
