The Northern Irishman scored 11 goals this season, helping the Rosaneri win the Serie B title and make an immediate return to Serie A following relegation in 2013.
“I like Palermo and playing here has been good,” Lafferty wrote on his official Facebook page.
“But I have to respect the decision that Palermo made to sell me. I hope that the club spend the money on good players and stay in Serie A for a long time.
“That is the League they belong to more than any other.”
