The chaotic situation at Genoa took another twist, as Bruno Labbadia was meant to be in Italy today, but has reportedly turned down the job after Andriy Shevchenko’s dismissal.

The club started the campaign with Davide Ballardini, he was fired in November and Shevchenko lasted under two months at the helm.

Former Hertha Berlin manager Labbadia was expected in Genoa today to sign the contract, but La Repubblica, Sky Sport Italia, Tuttomercatoweb and others report he suddenly changed his mind and rejected the job.

That leaves Genoa in a very troubled situation, especially as they lost 6-0 to Fiorentina last night in Serie A under interim boss, youth team coach Abdoulay Konko.

Ballardini is still under contract and has been sacked by Genoa five times before, but that doesn’t mean he will necessarily accept a return.

Instead, Sky Sport Italia are pointing towards Rolando Maran as an alternative, as he was in charge of Genoa from August to December 2020, sacked after just 15 games.

Like Ballardini and Shevchenko, Maran is still under contract and getting paid by Genoa.
