Mateo Kovacic was in the middle of training with Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday when he was told that he had been sold to Inter.

“It all happened really quickly,” the 18-year-old told Inter Channel. “I was working on the pitch and then the Dinamo Coach told me I was coming to play for Inter. I said: ‘Seriously?’

“It was like a dream for me and I can’t really describe what I feel at the moment. I'm really happy to be here because Inter are a great club and I want to do my best.”

The Croatian youngster could cost the Nerazzurri a massive €15m should certain bonus clauses be activated.

“When I was still a boy, Inter were winning lots of trophies,” he added. “They're one of the biggest clubs in Europe and Italy.

“I'm happy I've joined a team like this and I hope to stay here for a long time.”

When asked what his preferred position was, he responded: “I like playing in the centre of midfield.”
