Mateo Kovacic will reportedly return to Inter after the Chelsea loan spell ended, as there’s no room for him at Real Madrid.

The midfielder spent this season on loan at Stamford Bridge and made 51 competitive appearances, contributing two assists.

Nonetheless, Chelsea are not expected to take up their option to buy the Croatia international, while Real Madrid cannot guarantee playing time.

According to Tuttosport, Inter are ready to take advantage of the situation and bring Kovacic back to San Siro, the club he left in 2015.

According to Tuttosport, Inter are ready to take advantage of the situation and bring Kovacic back to San Siro, the club he left in 2015.

New Coach Antonio Conte is eager to work with the 25-year-old and it’d likely be a loan with option to buy.

However, as Kovacic’s contract only runs to June 2021, he’d have to renew with Real Madrid first and then make the switch, giving the Merengues some guarantees of a future pay-off.

Inter sold Kovacic to Real Madrid for €38m in the summer of 2015, but his value has since dropped after three less than sparkling campaigns.
