Former Juventus and Lazio striker Darko Kovacevic escaped death after being shot at by two men in a car park in Athens.

The 46-year-old Serbian was ambushed in the Greek capital as he was getting out of his car.

According to local reports, one of the men fired shots at Kovacevic, who threw himself out of harm's way. The former striker suffered minor injuries to his wrist and knees. The two men then fled the scene in a getaway car.

It’s not immediately clear why Kovacevic was attacked.

Kovacevic signed for Juve in the summer of 1999, and stayed in Turin for two seasons before joining the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2001.

He scored 11 goals in Serie A before moving on to Spanish side Real Sociedad in January 2002.

Kovacevic retired from the game at the end of the 2008-09 season with Greek side Olympiakos.
