The Denmark international, though, is on his way back to full fitness and hopes to be up for selection at the weekend.

“I want to thank everyone who has asked about how my recovery from injury is going,” said the former Palermo and Wolfsburg man.

“My target is to be back as soon as possible. I hope to be training with the squad from tomorrow and it’s my dream to return to action against Napoli.”

The Giallorossi were forced to use midfielder Daniele De Rossi in central defence last night given a lack of options at the back.

Nicolas Burdisso, Marco Cassetti and Kjaer were out injured, while Brazilian international Juan was suspended.
