Milan will continue the negotiations over a renewal with Franck Kessie during the international break, as the Ivory Coast international will not take part in the World Cup qualifiers this month.

Il Corriere dello Sport reports the Ivorian has not responded to the call-up for the World Cup qualifiers in September, as he’s currently recovering from a flexor injury.

Milan are hoping to have Kessie and Zlatan Ibrahimovic back in action when Serie A resumes after the break, when Lazio arrives at San Siro on September 12.

Kessie: ‘I’m proud of Milan, I want to stay forever’

The newspaper claims Kessie will resume his work with Milan and won’t travel to meet up with the national team.

He’s currently working with a rehabilitation programme, but the negotiations for the renewal of Kessie’s contract continue.

The 24-year-old reportedly asks for €7m a season plus €1.5m in bonuses, while the Rossoneri stopped at €5.5m.

The newspaper claims the directors in Via Aldo Rossi hope the player is willing to take a step closer to Milan’s offer, to bridge the gap between offer and demand.

  1. If he doesn’t renew at 6m bench him for the season. Enough of players trying to use us to get rich on free transfers.

  2. I love Kessie but those numbers are too high compared to the rest of the squad. Milan‘s offer seems more than fair to me. If he refuses, then I’d say renew somewhere in the middle and then sell next summer.
