Seydou Keita calls Roma “a great club” but admits “it’s difficult” when the fans jeer the team.

The Giallorossi have gone through poor periods of form in the last two seasons, and the Ivorian says the fans should be more supportive.

“Roma is a great club,” Keita told Sky.

“But when things go wrong the fans whistle. It’s difficult. I don’t know any player who plays well when the fans whistle him, I’ve never seen that.

“The most important thing is when things go wrong, you help the team, help the player.”

Luciano Spalletti has replaced Rudi Garcia on the Olimpico bench, but Keita says it’s up to the players to turn the season around.

“Spalletti is a man with character, but I’ve always said that the perception of a Coach depends on his players. He can communicate his ideas, he can tell us what to do but it’s us who go on the pitch.

“So it’s the players who make the game. When you look at what Luis Enrique did here and what he’s doing at Barcelona you realise that, the importance of the players.

“Obviously his ideas matter too, the players do what the Coach says. The most important team is for the squad to have confidence in the Coach.”
