Cameroon's Idriss Carlos Kameni is set to become Roma's new first choice goalkeeper, the club have confirmed.

It was thought that Ajax's Maarten Stekelenburg was the outfit's top target, but sporting director Walter Sabatini says he's set to grab Espanyol's No 1 instead.

"His arrival is probable," the official noted. "That means it is something a bit more than just a possibility, even if anything can happen in the market.

"Stekelenburg? He is a great goalkeeper, but the decision made was a technical one."

New Roma boss Luis Enrique and his assistant Ivan De La Pena know all about Kameni's ability given his time in Spain.

It's unclear how much the Giallorossi will hand over to his La Liga club, but it is being whispered that he will only cost Roma €1m a season in wages.

Alexander Doni, who is close to Liverpool, is on a €2.3m a season salary, after tax, at the Stadio Olimpico.
