Juventus will adopt a defensive approach in the Champions League tomorrow night, according to Real Madrid defender Pepe.

The Bianconeri are in their first semi-final in this competition since 2003, and face Los Merengues tomorrow in the first leg at Juventus Stadium.

“It will be a very tough game,” Pepe predicted in the pre-match Press conference.

“They’ll play in the typical Italian way, looking to defend and then hitting us with their attackers. We’re prepared for this, we’re ready, and we’re very confident we can get a good result tomorrow.”

The Spanish giants are seeking to become the first team to retain the Champions League, but the Portuguese international insists not doing so would not represent a failure.

“It wouldn’t be a failure. We respect every team which faces Real Madrid. We know that it’s not easy, but we have to go out there tomorrow with calmness.

“This year we hope we can go on and defend the title which we won last year. It doesn’t matter who plays, because the important thing is to represent Real Madrid.”

Sergio Ramos is expected to line-up in midfield for the visitors, but Pepe says he does not find it odd to see his defensive partner playing further forward.

“Ramos has a lot of quality,” the former Porto man said.

“He’s strong on set pieces, and he gives us a lot of stability. He’s sacrificing a lot for the team, because the team is the important thing.”
