A source has told The Times that Juventus are hoping to sign Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea on a free transfer.

The renowned British newspaper claims United boss Jose Mourinho is ‘worried’ about losing De Gea to Juve, highlighting their ‘art of snapping up top talent for nothing’.

“De Gea played against his future club on Tuesday,” said the unnamed party.

“Juve are an expert in intelligent deals. If United don’t sell him in the summer, Juventus will wait until the end of his contract.”

“Juve are an expert in intelligent deals. If United don’t sell him in the summer, Juventus will wait until the end of his contract.”

The Old Lady famously signed Paul Pogba on a free transfer in the summer of 2012, before selling him back to the Red Devils for a then-world record €110m.

The Times adds Juve ‘are in a strong position’, given De Gea has only two years left on his contract and has yet to extend it, despite Real Madrid’s capture of Thibaut Courtois.

The Spaniard joined United in 2011 from Atletico Madrid, in a then-record deal for a goalkeeper, and has gone on to make over 300 appearances at Old Trafford, winning a Premier League title, an FA Cup and Europa League.

However, he has not won a League title for five years and was part of the Reds’ team who lost 1-0 to Juve in the Champions League midweek.
