Juventus have confirmed their interest in Sampdoria's Giampaolo Pazzini and Alberto Gilardino of Fiorentina.

Both players have been paired with the Old Lady and Juve transfer chief Giuseppe Marotta has told the Corriere dello Sport that he is monitoring both strikers.

"In terms of profile, Pazzini is a player worthy of Juventus," said the director general. "When Sampdoria decide to put him on the transfer market then we'll consider a bid.

"Gilardino is a prolific attacker and a good player, but it's the same scenario as the Pazzini one. If a club decides not to sell a player then it's useless to persist."

In a separate interview with Tuttosport, Giorgio Chiellini was asked who he'd prefer to have in his team – Pazzini or Gilardino?

"I have to say Pazzini," stated the Juve central defender.

"Giampaolo is more technical and has a great leap on him, while Alberto is great at keeping hold of the ball and allowing the team to come forward.

"Nevertheless, I'm biased towards Pazzo as we are both Tuscan and we've known each other since we were very young.

"We often went out for dinner in Florence and I'd be happy if he, a friend, arrived."

Meanwhile, Marotta was asked for his opinion on suggestions that Juve target Edin Dzeko is heading towards Manchester City.

"I'm not convinced that he will go, but I do believe that a deal could be close," responded the former Sampdoria employee.

Marotta was also questioned on what he hoped 2011 would bring.

"Juventus must always be protagonists, always," he noted. "We need to improve and also to win.

"The Scudetto? We are obliged to believe. At the start we knew that we couldn't compete, but as time has passed we have noticed our strength."
