The Old Lady’s defender announced on Saturday he would skip Italy’s Nations League games against Poland and Bosnia and Herzegovina because of an injury.

“I wanted to be here at all costs, but unfortunately it’s not going to happen,” Bonucci told RAI Sport.

“I tried everything, I tried to grit my teeth over the last 20 days, as even against Lazio I had some pain and hoped it would go away, but it kept increasing. I asked too much of my body.”

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Bonucci will remain on the sidelines for 20 days.

The player will undergo medical examinations at the J Medical in the coming days.

If the recovery time will be confirmed, Bonucci could return to action on the December 5 against Torino missing Juventus’ games against Cagliari, Benevento, Ferencvaros and Dynamo Kiev.

Giorgio Chiellini will also miss a month of action with an injury and Matthijs de Ligt and Merih Demiral will be the only centre-backs available for Andrea Pirlo after the break.
