The Italian international has emerged as the Old Lady’s No 1 transfer target this summer after a deal couldn’t be reached with Atletico Madrid for Sergio Aguero.

Talks for the former Parma man have intensified over the last three weeks, but reaching an agreement has proved problematic.

“Rossi is a real talent of the Italian game,” Juventus director general Beppe Marotta stated. “He is a player who we have put our eyes on, like other clubs.

“We’ll try to sign him, but over the last few hours it has emerged that Villarreal have the intention of keeping him.

“If Rossi doesn’t arrive then we’ll take a look around.”

Juve have also been linked with Roma’s want-away striker Mirko Vucinic and Marotta confirmed the Old Lady’s interest.

“We do like him, but this is another really difficult operation to conclude,” the former Sampdoria” data-scaytid=”18″>Sampdoria director added.

“We want to complete our squad, to fill the gaps. There is still a month left.

“We are looking for an important objective, but it is not easy as we are not as competitive as the English and Spanish clubs.”

It’s understood that the Bianconeri made Villarreal an offer of around €25m for Rossi. Roma are hoping to sell Vucinic for €18m.
