Di Francesco spent much of his playing career in a Giallorossi jersey, scoring 14 goals in 107 games in all competition, and won the Scudetto under Capello in 2001.

“Rudi Garcia worked on the psychology of the players and this side reminds me of Fabio Capello’s Roma,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Morgan De Sanctis is like a brick wall in goal and if they have conceded only twice this season, the credit goes to him. He is like Francesco Antonioli, he always saves the result.

“I think this Roma has a midfield of greater quality than Capello’s side, though.”

Di Francesco won’t be facing his former teammate Francesco Totti, who is still out injured.

“Totti rediscovered his physical form after the hard work with Zdenek Zeman last season. He does well not to allow reference points in attack, so his absence will be keenly felt.”
