The result means the Biancocelesti remain in third place on 50 points, with Inter on 51 and leaders Juventus 54.

As for Verona, they climb above Napoli and Bologna to ninth spot, but are within a point of the group in sixth, including Milan and Cagliari.

“I think we could’ve won it! Especially towards the end, we had the opportunities. Aside from the result, we were up against a very strong side that plays by heart, but our performance here makes me very proud,” the coach told DAZN.

Verona are the only side other than Inter who have managed to stop Lazio scoring in Serie A this season, but at the same time Hellas also failed to find the net after 12 consecutive rounds, just one shy of the all-time club record.

“We’ve been playing with this False 9 system recently and it is working well, creating numerous chances, so for now we’ll keep doing it and try to make the most of the characteristics of the players at my disposal.

“In my view, if we had used a proper centre-forward this evening, we would’ve conceded four goals.

“I had sleepless nights before this, because Lazio really are strong and I expected them to pin us back in the second half. Instead, we held out so well, showed great mentality, aggression, so I am satisfied and will sleep soundly tonight.”
