Genoa Coach Ivan Juric feels they “actually played better” against Sampdoria, but humility paid off in the 3-0 victory over Milan.

The Grifone were fresh from a 2-1 defeat to local rivals Samp and put it behind them in some style.

“We actually played better in the Derby, but today were more humble and it paid off. We weren’t spectacular, but allowed Milan very little, so we’re happy,” Juric told Mediaset Premium.

“We actually played better in the Derby, but today were more humble and it paid off. We weren’t spectacular, but allowed Milan very little, so we’re happy,” Juric told Mediaset Premium.

“Against Milan you need to play this way, showing respect for a great team. It was important for us to close off their counters and tactically we did a good job.

“I have noticed that Milan are devastating running into open space, so we didn’t want to leave ourselves open to that. We prepared the match like this, eager to close all the spaces.”

Now Genoa are only three points behind Milan and have a game in hand, to be played at home to Fiorentina. How far can they go?

“We want to be relaxed and enjoy our football, then we’ll see. It is important not to lower our guard.

“It was my mistake to mention Sampdoria’s transfer strategy and suggest they ought to do better, as I just ended up motivating them. Now I have learned some humility too.”
