Former Roma goalkeeper Julio Sergio reveals “Paris Saint-Germain wanted me, but I’d already given my word to Lecce.”

The shot-stopper completed his transfer to the Stadio Via del Mare this week and turned down the chance to join the French giants.

“It’s true, I spoke to Leonardo quite a few times, because he wanted to explain his project for PSG,” confessed Julio Sergio.

“Paris Saint-Germain wanted me, but I’d already given my word to Lecce and Coach Eusebio Di Francesco.

“I am glad that I chose Lecce, as Andrea Bertolacci spoke very highly of the atmosphere at this club and I received a warm welcome.

“Clearly it is going to be a very difficult campaign, but first of all we must try to give our all on the pitch.”

Over the years Julio Sergio was third, second and first choice goalkeeper at Roma.

“I felt very happy there and, although at the beginning there were some problems, over the last two years I think I did pretty well. This is why I have no regrets at leaving.

“Now Lecce provide a fascinating challenge. I want to prove I am still capable of being a protagonist in Serie A.”

Meanwhile, Lecce have officially signed Colombian international Juan Guillermo Cuadrado on loan from Udinese.
