According to Spanish newspaper AS, director of sport Monchi has set his sights on Juanfran as a January addition to the squad.

He turns 33 next week and his contract with Atleti expires at the end of the season, but he has fallen down the pecking order in favour of Sime Vrsaljko.

It would be a similar approach to the hugely successful move for Aleksandar Kolarov, who brought experience and impressive fitness levels.

The main problem would be getting Juanfran to leave Atletico Madrid after seven years, as he has been there since January 2011.
