Phil Jagielka believes that young attacker Ross Barkley can give England an extra dimension at the World Cup.

The 20-year-old has been a revelation at Everton in his first full season of Premier League football, and was a somewhat surprise inclusion in the Three Lions’ squad for the tournament.

But his countryman is confident that the attacker will rise to the occasion and perform admirably in Brazil.

“Ross is fantastic. He's such a good player, you often forget how young he is," Jagielka is reported as saying by Sky Sports.

“We don't want to put too much pressure on him too soon.

“As a nation we're desperate for success and to do everything as quickly as possible.

“But I think the way Roy [Hodgson’s] managing him, and the way Roberto [Martinez has] handled him at club level, it's absolutely perfect for Ross.

“He'll play a lot of games and go well, but then at times he will be held back too.

“To have people like him on the bench, that gives us another dimension and hopefully that will be good for the squad.”
