Italian reports claim Roma are in “advanced negotiations” for Juan Manuel Iturbe to join Watford in January.

The rumour had already been in the works for a couple of weeks, but stepped up several gears today.

Sky Sport Italia claim there are only details remaining to complete the deal, which could even be on a permanent basis rather than a loan with option to buy.

The 22-year-old forward was signed from Hellas Verona in July 2014 for €22.5m, but has not lived up to expectations.

The 22-year-old forward was signed from Hellas Verona in July 2014 for €22.5m, but has not lived up to expectations.

A deal had been done for him to join Serie A side Genoa over the summer, but director Walter Sabatini pulled out of completing it at the last minute.

He said that he feared it would weaken the Giallorossi and could be a big mistake.

However, six months on Sabatini and Iturbe seem to have changed their minds and are ready for the split.

He has just five goals in 55 competitive games for Roma, plus five assists and six yellow cards.

Born in Argentina but largely raised in Paraguay, Iturbe has one senior cap for Paraguay, but played for both countries at youth level.
