Fabio Grosso couldn’t fight back the tears after his Frosinone side earned promotion to Serie A on Monday.
The Ciociari beat Filippo Inzaghi’s Reggina 3-1, returning to Italy’s top flight after four years with three games to spare. Grosso could not hold back the tears after the final whistle and during his dressing room speech.
“You’ve been special. At all times, in every moment,” the 2006 Italy World Cup winner told his players after the match.
Grosso played a key role in Italy’s World Cup win in 2006, scoring a late winner in the semi-finals against Germany and the decisive penalty in the shootout against France in the Final.
