The tactician currently uses a 4-3-1-2 shape, but he could be tempted to go for a trident attack given the development of players such as Roma’s Mattia Destro, Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne and Liverpool’s Fabio Borini.
“Our football, especially at youth level, has worked well over the last two years,” the Azzurri CT told the Corriere dello Sport.
“If these forwards that we have prove to be ready then we can think about playing a 4-3-3.”
Prandelli gave Destro his first cap against England recently, while Under-21 international teammate Insigne is also expected to break into the Giro Azzurro soon.
“Destro took a step up in quality last season with Giuseppe Sannino at Siena. He’ll have the opportunity this season to get better and perfect his game.
“As for Insigne, we have been following him with attention,” Prandelli added. “It’s easy to speak well of him right now.
“He’s a modern attacker, he can play for the team and he’s very generous on a tactical level. This is all thanks to the Coach that he had, Zdenek Zeman, who taught him about the timings of the game.”
The tactician, who led his side to the Final of Euro 2012, also backed Daniele De Rossi’s decision to stay in Italy after the young Marco Verratti opted to join Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer.
“It’s better that De Rossi has stayed at Roma. National players like him keep the level of the game high by staying in Italy and are reference points to the youngsters.
“Verratti? We were silly to let him go, we’ve known about his qualities for months.
“I gave him a debut in the role he was born with, but I have to try to create space for him in my side with Andrea Pirlo set to be with us at the World Cup and also De Rossi who plays in that position too.”
