Coach Roberto Mancini had a training ground friendly against the Bologna youth team at Coverciano today, with three mini-matches lasting 40 minutes each.

He started out using Bernardeschi in the three-man midfield, with Federico Chiesa, Leonardo Pavoletti and Lorenzo Insigne in attack.

That ended 4-0 with a deflected Marco Verratti goal, two Insigne strikes and a Chiesa finish.

Most of the experiments seemed to be in the forward trident, as Cagliari’s Pavoletti was replaced as centre-forward by Andrea Belotti of Torino, then Ciro Immobile was the focus point in a 4-2-3-1 variation.

Bernardeschi also switched between wide right in a three-man midfield to part of the trident attack.

It is reported Salvatore Sirigu of Torino will be chosen to start in goal rather than Gianluigi Donnarumma.
