The FIGC have requested special dispensation to have the Stadio Barbera in Palermo at 100 per cent capacity for Italy’s World Cup play-off with North Macedonia.

The game is scheduled for March 24 in Sicily and is already completely sold out with the stadium at 75 per cent capacity.

This is the limit currently in place for open-air stadiums in Italy due to COVID restrictions, as they have never returned to 100 per cent after the initial lockdown in March 2020.

FIGC President Gabriele Gravina has now sent a formal letter to the Minister for Health Roberto Speranza asking for this match to be opened up to full capacity.

If the appeal is accepted, then the remaining tickets will be put on sale for a place at the Stadio Barbera.

In order to reach the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Italy must beat North Macedonia and then see off either Portugal or Turkey in the play-off final.
