Cesare Prandelli does not see Italy as favourites at the upcoming World Cup in Brazil.

The former Fiorentina Coach believes that the Azzurri are instead part of a second band of sides at the tournament, who could be considered dark horses.

“We will prepare from every point of view to try to get to the final,” Prandelli had told Tuttosport today.

“Mentally we need to maintain that we want to win the World Cup.

“I would say the favourites are Brazil, Argentina, Spain and Germany. Then after that it’s us, Uruguay, England, Holland, Belgium, Colombia and Japan.

“Due to the climate out there, the physical condition of the players could make the difference in any given game.

“I am lucky to have players like Buffon, De Rossi and Pirlo. They are always so focused and they give everything, and they have been world champions.

“They need to give their motivation to the new generation of players.”

Prandelli also commented on the race for the Scudetto.

“It’s Juve’s to lose, they are big favourites, since two years ago they have had something else.

“It all depends on them, although Roma are having a fantastic season.”

Finally, the tactician revealed that his team’s wives and girlfriends will be allowed to be present at this summer’s World Cup.

“As far as the families go, wives, girlfriends and children will be allowed.

“The players will be free to bring the people closest to them, it’s the modern way.

“The children and the families will help to lighten the mood.

“Other national teams don’t allow this but it has not worked in the past.”
