The Azzurri are without a competitive victory in over a year and are currently joint bottom of their Nations League group with Poland on one point, while Portugal ran away at the top with six.

That makes Sunday’s showdown practically a head-to-head for who avoids relegation into League B.

According to the latest reports, Roberto Mancini will stick largely with the side that drew 1-1 with Ukraine in Wednesday’s friendly.

The only changes could be Genoa defender Domenico Criscito for Fiorentina’s Cristiano Biraghi at left-back, with Lorenzo Pellegrini pushing to take over from Nicolò Barella.

This would be the most likely scenario, seeing as Pellegrini is on sparkling form for Roma and 21-year-old Cagliari midfielder Barella only made his senior Italy debut in that Ukraine match.

The free-flowing and rotating trio in attack would therefore remain Federico Bernardeschi, Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Chiesa.

Italy (probable): Donnarumma; Florenzi, Bonucci, Chiellini, Criscito; Verratti, Jorginho, Pellegrini; Bernardeschi, Insigne, Chiesa
