Italy look set for a return to the 3-5-2 system for Tuesday’s friendly against Germany and Gianluigi Donnarumma could start.

The Azzurri swept Liechtenstein aside 4-0 in last night’s World Cup qualifier, debuting the new 4-2-4 shape.

However, Coach Giampiero Ventura confessed to the media that this experiment was in its early days and could not be risked against World Cup holders Germany, even in a friendly setting.

Today the squad began training at Milan’s Milanello ground, as the match will be at San Siro.

The Nazionale were practising a 3-5-2 tactic with Matteo Darmian and Marco Parolo in the starting XI.

As it’s at San Siro, Milan’s 17-year-old goalkeeper Donnarumma could be given a chance to shine as well.

There are concerns for Eder, as the Inter striker was a substitute against Liechtenstein and suffered a nasty knock to the knee that left him limping.

Today he trained separately in the gym, but should be available on Tuesday.
