The game is due to kick off at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, commonly referred to as Marassi, on Tuesday evening.

“We spoke to the Mayor and the local authorities in Genoa, confirming we were prepared to cancel the game if it would cause problems,” Federation director general Michele Uva told the Ansa news agency.

Italy’s friendly against Albania should go ahead on Tuesday in Genoa despite floods, confirm the FIGC.

“The response was that on Tuesday Italy-Albania will go ahead. That is the situation for the moment.”

Ironically, the game was organised to raise funds for those affected by last month’s devastating floods in Genoa.

New torrential rain hit northern Italy this weekend, causing severe floods and leaving several people dead.

Meanwhile, the Albanian team has still not arrived in Genoa, although they were supposed to originally be in the city on Saturday afternoon.

Their flight from France was delayed due to the weather conditions, then re-routed to Milan.

On Monday all the training grounds and sporting events will be shut down in Genoa, as more rain is expected and the city is on lockdown.

There were also fears for tonight’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Croatia in Milan, but that will go ahead after the rain ceased.

The San Siro turf was able to drain away excess water overnight.
